Fire Rated Boards & Batts
Fire rated boards and batts are passive fire protection materials made from high‑density mineral fibre with a fire‑resistant coating. They are used to seal wall and floor openings, restore fire resistance around services like cables and pipes, and maintain compartmentation in buildings, slowing the spread of fire and smoke.
What They Are
Fire rated boards are solid, coated mineral fibre panels, while batts are similar materials supplied in more flexible board form. Both are designed to be cut to size on‑site and installed with fire‑rated sealants or coatings to provide a robust fire‑stop barrier where traditional construction penetrations occur.
How They Work
These products rely on the high thermal resistance and ablative fire‑resistant coating of the mineral fibre core to block fire, heat and smoke. When exposed to fire, the coating helps form a protective barrier, helping to maintain the structural fire resistance of walls and floors for defined periods (often up to 4 hours).
