Cable Transits

Cable transits are passive fire protection systems used to maintain the fire resistance of walls and floors where electrical, data and communication cables penetrate building compartments. They are designed to seal around cables or cable bundles, helping prevent the spread of fire, heat and smoke from one compartment to another during a fire event.

How Cable Transits Work

Cable transits consist of a steel sleeve with an intumescent lining. In normal conditions cables and conduits pass through this sleeve in a fire‑rated wall or floor. When exposed to high temperatures, the intumescent material rapidly expands, sealing the opening and forming a fire‑resistant barrier that restricts the passage of fire and smoke.
