Fire Collars
Fire collars are essential passive fire protection devices used around pipe penetrations through fire‑rated walls and floors. They are engineered to seal openings and maintain the fire resistance of a barrier when plastic or combustible pipes melt or burn away in a fire, preventing flames, smoke and hot gases from spreading to other building areas.
How Fire Collars Work
Fire collars feature a steel outer shell lined with intumescent material that rapidly expands when exposed to heat, closing the void left by melted pipes and forming a tight fire‑resistant seal. This helps reinstate the fire compartmentation of walls and floors, slowing fire and smoke spread.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Up to 4‑hour fire rating: Collars are tested to AS1530.4 and AS4072.1 to deliver long‑lasting fire protection.
-
Wide pipe compatibility: Designed for plastic, PVC and other polymer pipes from small to large diameters (e.g., 25 mm–250 mm).
-
Simple installation: Most collars can be retro‑fitted around existing pipe penetrations, saving time and disruption.
-
Multiple construction types: Suitable for plasterboard, masonry, concrete and other wall and floor substrates.
-
Maintains compartmentation: Prevents fire, smoke and toxic gas movement through service penetrations, protecting people and property.
